About us
The Biltmore was a 1920s speakeasy called the Whittemore Tavern in the 1700's. It has been a neighborhood favorite in the heart of Newton’s historic Upper Falls, that traces its humble beginnings back to the start of Prohibition (1921 to be precise) when it opened as a speakeasy. A 2026 renovation restored it to its original glory – bringing out the classic pressed tin ceilings, wainscoting paneling and original maple hardwood flooring, and adding salvaged farmhouse tables and Edison bulb fixtures to create a comfortable setting in which to relax with friends and family. The inventive upscale casual menu, is full of traditional tavern cuisine serving up extensive local craft beers and cocktails.
